coppola is over rated. very. yeah he had some moments of pure inspiration but they could just be down to source material/ actors/ sound people etc. he has also made some utter **** . he has no distinctinve style that i can put my finger on. plus i think he has gotten unprofessional in his old age ALTHOUGH i like what he said about the fat girl in ohio...
agression, how can you say that about kubrick? the man is a genious and if you can't see that you should at least appreciate that the man is a innovator. 2001 changed the way people approached filmmaking, especially sci-fi and has influenced so many filmmakers.
you weren't impressed by the shining? and you call yourself a filmmaker? ANYONE who knows even a little about film should really be able to appreciate at least the technical side of what kubrick was doing in that film. i don't know what your exact problem with the film was but maybe you should try to put it into context, the man built his own lenses to get the perfect shots and those long dollies down the corridor were ground breaking in their time, THEY WERE THE FIRST!.
just because kubrick has been ripped of so many times and the revolutionary things that he did have become the norm doesn't mean that you have any right to call him under rated. saying that just shows your cinematic ignorance. Grrrrrr!!! ALTHOUGH everyone IS entitled to their own opinions and i'll probably get all this thrown back in my face over coppola....
KUBRICK IS GOD.

Martin Scorcese is one i would say has left me thinking "well it was ok" after all his films, but then again, the fact he can make a 3 hour film about gangsters at least seem ok to me might be a sign of his amazing ability.
I know its the directors job to peice everything together but i think a good story is much more important. And i guess gangster stories dont interest me as much as other stories.
Think about star wars, its not a great film not cos its got a great director, its becos its got a good story and a good universe in which is it set.
The director is just giving you the window with which you view the story, ultimately its a good story that makes the movie. Thats why most of the so called classic movies fail to entertain me in the slightest, the story just doesnt interest me, and no ammount of camera trickery is going to change that.

Hey there.
I too think Kubric is overrated. I've enjoyed some of his stuff. But I wouldnt toungue his **** the way some do.
Eyes Wide Shut was a terrible movie. Tv melodrama with A list stars.
"those long dollies down the corridor were ground breaking in their time, THEY WERE THE FIRST!"
I know... Any they were not even dolly shots AMAZING.
I think the guy is massivly overrated. And I don't think I'm cinematicly ignorant.
Despin out.

Hey there.
I don't have a fave. But if I was forced to choose I would have to say Brett Ranter.

Hey there.
I don't hate you. Honest. The Shining is famous for it's "groundbreaking" work with early versions of the steadicam.
Despin out.
